ICYMI: Ohio's Election Chief Builds a Bridge With The NAACP in Toledo

September 13, 2019

Ohio’s top elections official and the state chapter of the nation’s largest civil rights organization are hoping to forge a better relationship than what has previously existed between the two parties.

“He wants to work with the NAACP,” NAACP Ohio President Tom Roberts said of Secretary of State Frank LaRose. “We know what areas we don’t agree on, but we know we have many areas we agree on.”

Mr. Roberts said he was approached by Mr. LaRose, a Republican elected in 2018, to speak at the group’s state convention in Toledo that continues through Saturday.

“It was the NAACP that helped us to fulfill that founding purpose to have equal justice for all, equal rights for all, and we know that voting rights is a big part of that,” Mr. LaRose said during the group’s luncheon at the Park Inn. “NAACP led the way on that, and that’s been the case on that right here in Ohio.”
