COLUMBUS – Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose today announced 11,447 new businesses filed in April, a slight decrease from the month before but still above the monthly filing average in 2019. 99.5% of these filings were done online.
“Ohio entrepreneurs, workers, and business owners have shown that even during an economic and public health emergency we find innovative ways to create value for our families, our communities, and our state,” said LaRose. “Despite our challenges, Ohioans continue to put faith in their dreams and their work ethic, so let’s reward them by supporting our local businesses.”
During this time when Ohioans are working to #ResponsibleRestartOhio, we recommend that those looking to start a new business take advantage of quick-and-easy online filing through Ohio Business Central by clicking here on OhioBusinessCentral.gov. If you need to file in-person, the re-opened business service center now has significantly upgraded physical protection as well as protocols in place to ensure the safety of both staff and the Ohioans they serve.
Secretary LaRose, with help from his two oldest daughters, recently constructed a physical safety shield at the center. A how-to video was posted by Secretary LaRose and can be viewed by clicking here or downloaded by clicking here.
NOTE: New business filings are classified as forms filed with the Ohio Secretary of State that declare the formation of a business entity, including for-profit, non-profit and professional corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships. Filing as a business in Ohio does not guarantee the company will begin operations, be profitable or create jobs.
