Ohio Secretary of State Week in Review for the Week Ending May 15, 2020

Addressing Postal Service Issues in Butler County

After learning that 317 absentee ballots were delivered by the United States Postal Service to the Butler County Board of Elections after the deadline set in law by the legislature, Secretary LaRose wrote a letter to USPS Deputy Postmaster General Stroman calling for an investigation that details how the delayed delivery happened, what protocols were not followed, and proof of the security of the ballots. Final Election Results Coming Soon

Per Ohio law, county boards of elections were able to begin their official canvas of election results on May 9th. Boards have until May 19 to certify and submit the official results. Our office will then begin our review of those results before releasing them publicly. 

Women's Suffrage Centennial Commission

This week the Ohio Women's Suffrage Centennial Commission met virtually to discuss plans to continue the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the women's right to vote through the pandemic. Be sure to check our website soon for updates at OhioSoS.gov.

Zooming In

LaRose participated in several virtual conversations this week. He joined members of the Beavercreek Rotary Club on a virtual discussion to update them on the preparations being made for the November election and the work being done in the business services center to serve Ohio entrepreneurs. He also joined several other Secretaries of State and national election experts in a virtual forum hosted by Business for America to discuss voting during a pandemic and ways Ohio is continuing to be a leader in creating an environment for voters to have their voice.
