(Washington, D.C.) — Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose testified before the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, providing federal lawmakers with firsthand insight on Ohio’s successful management of the 2024 general election.
“Ohio has earned a reputation as the ‘Gold Standard’ in election administration because we refuse to rest on our laurels,” Secretary LaRose told the House Committee on Administration. “We are constantly looking for, and acting upon, process improvements and new ideas to help us ensure it is easy to vote and hard to cheat.”
Secretary LaRose outlined best practices that make Ohio a national leader in election administration, including the development of a statewide election readiness program, prompt reporting of election results, the retention and transparency of election data, and the enforcement of photo identification requirements. He also called on Congress to assist with making federal citizenship records available to states for use in maintaining accurate voter registration records.
“The U.S. Constitution empowers the states to run elections,” said Secretary LaRose. “However, the federal government also has an obligation to assist states by providing the necessary tools to ensure accurate voter registration rolls and the delivery of absentee ballots.”
