In response to an initial decision made late today by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to deny a waiver for military and overseas voters, LaRose is taking swift action to ensure Ohio’s military men and women have every opportunity to have their voices heard in the May 3rd primary election.

Today Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose thanked the General Assembly for their leadership in taking swift action to provide critical emergency funding to Ohio’s 88 county boards of elections. LaRose requested the $9 million appropriation to help elections officials manage the unprecedented demands of preparing for the upcoming May 3rd primary election.

Today, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose directed Ohio’s 88 county boards of elections(opens in a new window) to begin taking the necessary steps to place candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives on the May 3rd primary ballot. The order is pursuant to today's Ohio Redistricting Commission's passage of a four-year map for Ohio Congressional districts. On Saturday, the Secretary issued a similar directive to the Boards instructing them to include candidates for the Ohio General Assembly on the primary ballot.

Following another record-breaking year of new business filings, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced 16,571 new businesses were created in the first month of 2022. This is a 32% increase from December (12,516), higher than January 2021, and serves as a remarkable start to the new year for new Ohio businesses. In 2021, 197,010 new businesses formed in Ohio, breaking 2020’s record numbers by more than 25,000 filings.

Results Show Ohio Once Again Ran Secure and Accurate Elections

Upon the completion of the official canvassing of election results across Ohio from the November 2nd General Election, eighteen races resulted in a tie that had to be determined by coin flip or by some similar method. In all, following the official statewide canvass, twelve candidate races and six local issue races ended in ties. While tied candidate races are ultimately decided by a coin flip administered by the county board of elections, issue races resulting in a tie are defeated, as Ohio law requires a majority of affirmative votes for passage.

Early in November, Ohioans broke the annual new business filings record set in 2020 with almost two full months remaining to create a new business. With data for November now final, the total number of new businesses created last month is 13,754, a 13 percent increase over last November’s filing numbers. Ohioans have so far submitted a total of 184,494 new business filings this year. Last year’s record for all of 2020 was 171,073 new filings.
