Ohio Business Spotlight
January's Ohio Business Spotlight

A challenging 2020 ended with a flurry of business activity across Ohio. As Ohio kicks off a new year, we wanted to highlight the growing logistics and transportation sectors that are so important to businesses in and around the Buckeye State. After all, 60 percent of Americans are within 600 miles of Ohio! These often small, family run companies provide products to the stores we shop at, medicine to our hospitals, and serve as the unseen middleman that keep our state running strong while also providing important, well-paying jobs.
A logistics service is built from people, computers, and infrastructure to heighten supply chain efficiency and strategy to streamline a business’s bottom line. This month’s business spotlight looks at different logistics & transportation companies from around our state that do the work to make our lives more livable -- especially during a pandemic!

Forty-plus years of dedication and hard work are evidenced by this stable and successful trucking company. Thomas Trucking began in the basement of Cal and Christine Thomas’ home in 1972, with a lease to Casket Distributors, hauling “underground furniture."
Within three years, Cal and Christine had purchased seven tractors and had expanded to haul dry and refrigerated freight. In 1984, Thomas acquired another company and moved to the present location on Seymour Avenue in Cincinnati, Ohio. Cal made sure the trucks were in top shape by working on them at night, along with mechanic Carl Allen, after he worked a full day at P&G. Christine kept the operations going during the day, performing dispatch and all other office functions.
At the present time, Thomas Trucking, Inc. runs 20 trucks; owning about 15 tractors, 35 trailers and has five Owner Operators. Trucks are full and drivers are busy. One full-time mechanic and three office/dispatch personnel keep up with the demands of customers.
