Dave Thomas Foundation For Adoption
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?
Being in the hometown of Wendy’s and having the same founder – Dave Thomas – allows us to have rich conversations with those who remember him best. Dave was integrated in the community and his legend lives on in what we do. We take that very seriously.
DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:
The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption was started in 1992 by Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas, who was adopted. Although Dave was not adopted from foster care, he had a special place in his heart for foster youth. The Foundation is the only national nonprofit public charity dedicated solely to foster care adoption. We have nearly 200 adoption recruiters coast to coast -- in all 50 states and five provinces in Canada. These recruiters believe as we do that no child is unadoptable, including those who have special needs, those who are older, and those who are waiting to be adopted as with sibling groups. A five-year empirical study on our child-focused recruitment program showed that these children – who are most at risk of aging out of care at 18 – are up to three times more likely to get adopted when served through our program.
