The Blueberry Patch

The fertile rolling hills of Richland County have afforded us an opportunity to grow one of the healthiest and most popular fruits available. Starting and operating a family farm in Ohio has been a lifelong passion that has been fueled and assisted by the Ohio Department of Agriculture and The Ohio State University in its well-supported extension and research programs. Our latest endeavor into agribusiness, the opening of 1285 Winery, has been another smooth process facilitated by Ohio’s Division of Liquor Control. The employees at these agencies and institutions obviously get it, and when they say “we want you to be in business here in Ohio” they mean it. It is a pleasure to be part of Ohio’s business community.

Our farm started in 1981 with the purchase of 80 acres in Richland County. The success of the first planting of 1,500 Blueberry bushes has led our farm to become Ohio’s largest plantation with more than 27,000 plants in production. Over the course of the last 30-plus years we have expanded our agribusiness to include a greenhouse, gift shop, café, and coffee roasting. The nursery produces hundreds of thousands of new bushes each year and ships plants throughout the United States and Canada. Our latest growth has been the addition of the 1285 Winery, where we make our own wines and serve many locally-sourced foods on our menu. Our farm is open all year with many events held each month making it a great destination farm. The Blueberry Patch welcomes visitors from all corners of Ohio. We look forward to seeing you at Ohio’s premier blueberry plantation soon.
