The Wooster Brush Company
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?
For 165 years our community and company have grown alongside each other. Both are filled with hard-working, creative individuals with great values and a desire to succeed. Ohioans are what makes Ohio great; they’ve also made The Wooster Brush Company a leader in our industry.
DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:
Established in 1851, The Wooster Brush Company is one of the oldest manufacturers of paint applicators in the U.S.A. Their company founder, Adam Foss, began producing handmade paintbrushes in a small, two-story building in Wooster, and sold them door-to-door throughout the state.
In 1909 The Wooster Brush Company acquired land on Madison Avenue, and a new factory was built. Even after growing to include more than 888,000 square feet of manufacturing, shipping, administrative and warehousing facilities, their company headquarters remain at the original Madison Avenue site.
During 165 years in business, Wooster has established many milestones in the industry:
• Invention of popular paintbrush styles such as the angle sash and the Shasta®
• Development of the “Foss-set” process to cement bristle into paintbrushes
• First to use nylon filaments to create brushes that performed in latex paints
• Creation of the Exploded-Tip® process to make soft flags on filament ends
• First to introduce synthetic fabrics for roller covers, now an industry standard
Wooster Brush is quite proud of their history…a history that was forged with a “made in America mentality” and passed from generation to generation. It still has important meaning for them today, and hopefully it has value to you.
