Oberlin Heritage Center

Ohio's powerful history has links to national movements in anti-slavery, women's rights, Civil Rights, invention, aviation, education, music, and more. Ohioans widely support the preservation and interpretation of history, which draws people together and helps individuals and communities better understand the past and address the challenges of the present.

The Oberlin Heritage Center (OHC) is an active, community-based non-profit that serves as a local historical society and museum complex of historic buildings. OHC offers tours and history walks, an active calendar of public programs and special events for youth and adults, volunteer and intern opportunities, a newsletter, a website, and a growing presence in social media. OHC views the entire town as an important resource and learning laboratory, and its interpretation and programming extend far beyond the walls of the Heritage Center. Oberlin's nationally significant history of universal education and social activism resonate with visitors from near and far.

The Oberlin Heritage Center is also the community's historic preservation organization and assists many residents and scholars with research. OHC is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and strives for engaging interpretation, responsible stewardship of historical resources, and administrative excellence. The organization enjoys the participation and support of a broad spectrum of the community and its programs and tours regularly draw attendees from Northeast Ohio and beyond. The Heritage Center has received numerous awards for its education and outreach offerings and was the first museum to earn Standards of Excellence Certification from the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations.
