Bissell Maple Farm

Ohio has a talented and hardworking labor base, great maple syrup thanks to our seasonal weather and soil, and of course - maple syrup customers!

Our maple roots run deep in Ohio. Our family produced maple sugar in protest of cane sugar made by slave labor in the 1800's.

Maple syrup is an American tradition. Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson promoted maple sugar to early colonial America because it was produced from the sugar maple tree on American soil by free men. At the time, maple sugar was half the cost of cane sugar from the West Indies. In fact, it wasn't until the 1880s that cane sugar became cheaper than maple sugar.

Today, Ohio maple farmers make international award-winning maple syrup. In fact, most of Ohio's maple crop is shipped out of state, packaged into another state's bottle, and shipped right back to Ohio. We think this is silly. Ohio maple syrup can stay in Ohio and be packaged and sold by Ohio maple farmers, to Ohio maple consumers.

Over the last couple of years we have developed a unique maple syrup. What could be better than maple syrup, you ask? Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup. We utilize single use bourbon barrels from Ohio and Kentucky distilleries, age the pure maple syrup to perfection and ship it all over the country.

This product has changed our company. Quite frankly, it is changing the maple syrup industry. The bourbon barrel aged maple syrup is introducing new consumers to maple syrup, an unintended benefit to the Ohio maple syrup industry.‎
