WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?
Ohio is a great state with a long history in agriculture and a wide array of supporting organizations including Ohio State University Extension Service, local USDA/FSA offices, and the Ohio Proud program. Plus, we have seen solid signs of Ohio helping to push the “grow local, buy local, eat local” mantra.
DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:
Dandelion Lane Farm is a new farm, started in 2013, by Lee and Dawn Lichtenwalner. Lee is an honorably retired and partially disabled Air Force veteran. Together, they are trying to make their presence known as they introduce customers to high-quality produce and farm-fresh, sustainably raised eggs and poultry. They seek out unique sources of seeds and plants that meet their non-GMO, heirloom, and organic requirements. They raise pastured chickens for meat and egg production, as well as Peking ducks, also for meat and egg production. Their farm uses Certified Organic feed grown locally by another farm. This year they started raising turkeys for the holidays and to provide their customers with ultra-fresh, healthy ground turkey and turkey sausage.
In 2014, they achieved their Certified Naturally Grown certification (www.NaturallyGrown.org) and were honored to be the first Veteran farm in Ohio to receive their Homegrown by Heroes Certification through the Farmer Veteran Coalition (www.FarmVetCo.org). Lee Lichtenwalner was interviewed by three different organizations on his views as a Veteran farmer with disabilities in 2014. Also, their products have become a real hit on the menu prepared by Chef Tank for the Magic Tree Pub and Eatery in Boardman, Ohio.
They were just invited to take over all greenhouse, produce, and plant sales at Mr. Darby’s Antique & Collectible Emporium in North Lima, owned by Bob Neapolitan, starting in 2015. Further, Mr. Lichtenwalner was hired to be a freelance professional blogger for Growing Warriors (www.GrowingWarriors.org), another organization helping veterans transition into agriculture.
