WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?
We are dealing with urban populations that are reasonably close to our agriculture area. This is true across the state. This makes it possible for us to sell our produce locally and directly to the customer. That helps us tell our story and build trust from our family to theirs.
DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:
Patterson Fruit Farm is now in its sixth generation of ownership. Brothers Bill and Dave along with Dave’s wife Pam and parents Jim and Nancy Patterson work together to provide high quality apples and strawberries to their northeastern Ohio neighbors along with their cider which is found in grocery stores around Ohio. They welcome customers to their Farm Market which is open year round to enjoy not only fresh produce but a bakery complete with daily made donuts and freshly baked pies. They start each new year in their maple woods making maple syrup, continue on with pick your own and already picked for the customer strawberries in June, then gradually fill the market with nature’s bounty as fresh vegetables and fruits ripen. What started out as a general farm became more specialized when Iona and Sam Patterson built a permanent farm market to supplement their bi-weekly trips to Cleveland with their produce at a Farmers’ Market. In the ‘60s pick your own was established, the market grew and, school groups multiplied. By the 90’s they had added an agritainment adventure to their farm. They call it their Family Fun Fest. It is open daily for seven weeks in September and October and brings families from the suburbs and cities to play outdoors, pick apples and learn how their food is grown – why a farmer is important in their lives.
