WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DOING BUSINESS IN OHIO?
Ohio specifically, Columbus, is a socially conscious city. It is a city full of entrepreneurs and innovators which leads to ample opportunities to be mentored and to mentor, allowing the learning curve of business to be much smaller because you can learn from your peers.
DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS:
Eleventh Candle Co. is a social enterprise in Columbus, partnering with their nonprofit Legacy to redeem, restore, empower and equip those vulnerable to human trafficking, abuse, exploitation and addiction. They partner with local groups to get referrals, such as She Has A Name and Out of Darkness. They also receive emails from women in the community who have heard of Eleventh Candle Co. and are looking for employment. Many of these women have record which hinders them from getting a job; they do not care about past records.
After watching two little girls being sold in Ethiopia, Amber, founder of Eleventh Candle Co., returned to Ohio and realized the same thing is happening here. She did some research and found Ohio was 5th in the nation for human trafficking, in 2015. Eleventh Candle’s program provides employees, many with trauma from past experiences, informed care and counseling.
Through Eleventh Candle Co. a once trafficked woman in Columbus, is employed while a village in Ethiopia is supported and orphaned children there are welcomed into homes because people purchase their products.
