With the August 8 special election 3 days away, voters should be aware that there is no early voting on Monday, August 7.
Under HB 458, the Ohio General Assembly – with bipartisan support from Ohio election officials – eliminated Monday early voting hours to provide our county boards of elections with adequate time to prepare for the Tuesday election. The bill provided discretion to the Secretary of State to reallocate those six hours of early in-person absentee voting previously available by adding hours on Monday through Friday of the preceding week.
Early voting continues this weekend at our county boards:
Saturday 8/5: 8:00a.m. - 4:00p.m.
Sunday 8/6: 1:00p.m. - 5:00p.m.
This election season, Ohio voters have enjoyed nearly 200 hours of early voting in the time leading up to the August special election. Ohio is one of 18 states that allows voting on a Saturday and one of just six states that allows early voting on a Sunday. Ohio’s early voting period is 21% longer than the national average.
