LaRose Issues Statement on US Senate Failure, Once Again, to Federalize Election Administration

Today Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Sherrod Brown once again failed to move S. 2747, their latest attempt to federalize election administration, forward. After their failure, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose issued the following statement:

“Elections belong to the people and are regulated by their representatives at the state level. The careful and honest administration of them at the local and state level is foundational for the civic life of our Republic. But that doesn’t matter to Senator Schumer and Senator Brown. This isn’t about voting rights. It’s a cynical attempt to takeover each state’s election system and Ohioans won’t be fooled. Despite our nation’s diverse election systems and infrastructure, and the very intentions of America’s founders, Senate Democrats want to force a one-size-fits-all approach that jeopardizes the integrity of our elections and the sacred trust of voters. Real election reform belongs here at home. The innovations and sound management practices that have made Ohio the gold standard in accessible and secure elections were only possible because we had the freedom and will to get it done. Washington bureaucrats have a long and storied tradition of messing up the most revered of institutions – we won’t let them do that to Ohio’s elections, no matter how hard Sherrod Brown tries.”
